Elizabeth Joyce
Elizabeth was born 28 March 1888 at Maryport, Cumberland. She was the daughter of Michael JOYCE and Margaret WILKINSON and married Ralph PERKINS on 3rd October 1916 in Cardiff. See Perkins Family
To get any further back on Elizabeth's maternal line would benefit from finding a DNA match to the Henderson family and Elizabeth's grandparents Thomas HENDERSON and Mary WILKINSON. If Thomas is not the father of Margaret WILKINSON then the Henderson Line is not the true line of Ascent.

Margaret and Michael Joyce Top of the page
Elizabeth's parents Margaret and Michael JOYCE were married at Cockermouth in 1879. Although Margaret is entered as Margaret HENDERSON on family census of 1871 she was in fact born Margaret WILKINSON, born to Mary WILKINSON in 1860 at Wigton, Cumbria. She appears on the 1861 census with her mother and her Grandmother, Esther WILKINSON. Mary Had one other child born before her marriage to Thomas HENDERSON in 1863. Jane Ann was born in 1862 but her surname has been recorded as HENDERSON. So whether or not Margaret's father is Thomas Henderson can really only be proved by DNA matches to his other descendants. A Bastardy bond , if one exists may name him as Margaret's father. Margaret's name on her marriage to Michael JOYCE is given as WILKINSON
On the 1911 census Michael mistakenly fills out the section relating to the number of children a mother has given birth to and how many are living. Although crossed through by officials we can see that Michael states they have had 15 children and only 6 of them are still living. I can only find 9 registered to a Joyce/Wilkinson partnership plus one more who is named on a census but for whom I can find no birth registration. Maybe some of their children were stillborn so would not have a birth registration. I keep searching for the family on the 1881 census but I cannot place them. The 10 children I can name are Ellen (Nellie) 1880, Joanna 1884, Elizabeth 1888-1981, May 1890, Esther 1893-1893, Margaret Wilkinson, 1895, Thomas Henderson 1897, Victoria 1898-1901 and Albert Edward Alexander 1901-1901.
In 1891 Margaret and Michael are living with Margaret's parents at 21 Middle Row, Cowpen, Northumberland. There are 15 of them in the household. Michael and Mary and their three daughters; Ellen aged 11, Elizabeth aged 3 and May aged 6 months, Michael is employed as a shoemaker. Thomas HENDERSON 48, a coal miner, is head of the household, Mary 46 his wife and children: Thomas, Wilkinson, Richard, Mary, Dinah, Rachael and Robert.
In 1901 the address is given as 7 High Street, Cowpen, Northumberland. Their name on this census is spelled JOICE. Michael is working as a coal miner (hewer) Beside Michael and Margaret are Nellie aged 20 single and a general domestic servant, Joanna 17 general domestic servant, Lizzie 13, Mary 10, Daisy 6, Thomas 3, Victory 2 and Albert 10 weeks old.
Margaret is not recorded on the 1911 census with Michael. He is living at 20 Daval Terrace, Blyth, Cowpen, Northumberland. He had written that he had been married for 36 years and had 15 children only 6 still living. He was working as a shoemaker for the Co-operative Society. At home with him are Elizabeth 24, Margaret 16 and Thomas 13. His brother Patrick is living with him and working as a boot repairer for the Co-op and there is also a lodger named Thomas NELSON.
In 1921 Margaret and Michael are living at 21 Harper St, Blyth, Tynemouth. Michael's birthplace is recorded as Roundstone, County Galway and his occupation as shoeworker retired. Living with them is Richard HENDERSON, Margaret's brother an out of work coal miner. There are deaths recoded at Tynemouth for Margaret Joyce in 1922 and Michael Joyce in 1927.

Victoria marries Henry D BRADLEY at Cardiff in 1947 and they have three children born in Cardiff. George dies in 1948 and it is likely that Margaret goes to live in Cardiff with Victoria, she dies in Cardiff in 1948. Victoria died in Cardiff in 2016
